Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Dr. Liman A. Ibrahim has expressed the readiness of the Service to synergize with the University of Abuja in the areas of fire safety capacity building for the staff of the University Fire Unit in line with the statutory responsibility of the Service to fight and control fire to protect lives and properties.
Dr. Liman Ibrahim stated this when the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah paid him a courtesy visit on Friday, 29th November, 2019 at the FFS Headquarters in Abuja.

The Comptroller General noted that there was a previous arrangement to establish a fire plant on the campus which was stalled due to the bureaucracy involved in the process and called for the constitution of a joint committee and the cooperation of all. He said there were, however, certain basic requirements for the establishment of fire plants and that the command would direct the Operations Officer in charge of Abuja Zone to assess the state of the University’s Fire truck after which men of the Service as well as their IT students would be deployed immediately to the University to train the University’s fire station staff. He said the command would also carry out the risk assessment of the University through its Investigation Unit and expressed hope that the recommendations of the report would be fully implemented. Professor Na’Allah who visited the command as part of his tour of government agencies and parastatals for collaborations towards repositioning the University as the face of public universities in Nigeria, had said that the University was open to collaborations that would not only place the University in its proper position, but would also move the country to greater heights as well as benefit humanity in general. While assuring the CG of the total support of the University towards the project, the Vice-Chancellor, said the risk assessment report when ready would be implemented to the letter in collaboration with the command. A joint Technical Committee for the establishment of the Fire Plants on both Campuses of the University was subsequently constituted with the Deputy Comptroller General, Quintus Azuogu as the Chairman, two (2) state comptrollers as members and the Head, Legal Unit of the Service as the Secretariat. The University’s members of the Committee will be announced in due course.
